While driving in the tunnel
- Always switch on your low-beam headlights before entering the tunnel.
- Keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, at least 50 m for cars and 100 m for trucks.
- Drive only within the designated traffic lane.
- Never reverse and do not stop inside the tunnel, unless there is an emergency.
- Always follow the messages on electronic signs and the instructions of authorities.
In case of accident or breakdown
- Turn on hazard warning lights and try to move your vehicle to the right side of the tunnel.
- Switch off the engine.
- Exit the vehicle, leaving the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked.
- Stand in a safe location, on the sidewalk/emergency walkway.
- If possible, drive the vehicle out of the tunnel. Otherwise, move it to the right side, switch it off, and abandon it safely.
- Proceed to the nearest emergency exit, following the signs.
- In all cases, prioritize your life over your vehicle.
In an emergency, immediately inform the Traffic Management Center using the SOS phones in the tunnel or call 1077 from your mobile.
In case of fire in your vehicle
- Stop safely and switch on hazard lights.
- Move the vehicle to the right side if possible.
- Switch off the engine and leave the vehicle immediately.
- Head to the nearest emergency exit.
In heavy traffic
- If traffic stops and your vehicle is immobilized:
- Keep at least 5 m distance from the vehicle in front.
- Switch off the engine.
- Close windows and do not smoke inside the vehicle.
- Never make a U-turn inside the tunnel.
