- The following three vertical road axes:
- Siatista – Ieropigi / Krystallopigi, with a length of 69.3 km
- Thessaloniki – Serres – Promachonas, with a length of 95.5 km
- Chalastra – Evzonoi, with a length of 60 km
Nea Egnatia Odos brings together international expertise and specialized know-how with deep knowledge of the Greek operating environment. The company is a partnership between the GEK TERNA Group, the largest Greek construction group managing a high-value portfolio of infrastructure projects and ranked among Europe’s leading industry groups, and Egis, a world-leading French firm in architecture, consulting, construction, and mobility services.
Having undertaken a unique project that spans Epirus, Macedonia, and Thrace, Nea Egnatia Odos’ strategic goal is to invest more than 3.8 billion euros throughout the duration of the concession, across the entire length of the Egnatia Odos motorway and its vertical axes, upgrading them into modern motorways that meet the highest standards of road safety.
Our foremost priority is road safety, always paired with high-quality services. Our mission is to provide citizens with modern road networks that support economic growth, safeguard the environment, enhance quality of life, and generate long-term value.
First Five-Year Upgrade Works
A key strategic priority for Nea Egnatia Odos is the implementation of extensive investments exceeding €1.8 billion across the full length of Egnatia Odos and its vertical axes, with the objective of transforming them into modern motorways that achieve the highest road safety standards.
In the first five-year phase, and in addition to other initiatives, the following actions will be undertaken:
- Extensive upgrade works on the following sections to bring them to modern motorway standards, with two traffic lanes and an emergency lane per direction:
- Chalastra – Evzonoi Vertical Corridor, from the Axios Interchange (IC 19) of Egnatia Odos to the Evzonoi Border Station, including the at-grade Idomeni junction within the Axios Interchange–Polykastro Interchange section.
- Lagkadas – Serres – Promachonas Vertical axis, from the Lagkadas Interchange (IC 24) of Egnatia Odos to the Promachonas Border Station (at km 95+500), specifically the Christos–Kato Ampela section.
- Construction works for 12 dual-sided Motorist Service Areas and 19 Temporary Parking Areas.
- Tunnel works, including the upgrading of existing systems and the implementation of measures arising from Tunnel Risk Assessment Studies for tunnels exceeding 500 meters in length. Tunnels represent a critical component of motorway infrastructure with enhanced road safety requirements, particularly on Egnatia Odos, which features 73 twin tunnels with a combined tunnel length of approximately 100 km over 50 km of motorway alignment. As a result, tunnels account for around 7% of the total length of the corridor.
- Upgrade of existing metal safety barriers to new barrier systems in accordance with European Standard EN 1317.
- Extensive maintenance works, covering structural, geotechnical, and pavement interventions, to ensure that the motorway meets the highest possible road safety standards.
